Lego MOC: Escape Pod for (10179) UCS Millennium Falcon

No matter what you thought of the standalone Solo  Star Wars movie, it was hard to miss the radical changes made to the Falcon. The iconic ship was nearly showroom fresh in white and blue, with a streamlined sensor dish and large escape pod covering the mandibles. The interior is bright and reflected Lando's interests: entertaining in style and showing off his prodigiously large space cape collection. I challenged myself to build an escape pod for the front of my classic 10179 UCS Millenium Falcon. Because I like rules, I saddled myself with a few guidelines: 1) The exterior should maintain the color scheme and visual language of the UCS Falcon, 2) The escape pod should snugly attach to the UCS Falcon, 3) Make no changes to the UCS Falcon, 4) The escape pod should be able to open up to reveal an interior, 5) Try to use only Lego elements that were available circa 2007. Lego MOC: Ewok Adventureland

Yub-nub!  What did the Ewoks do with all the junk the Empire left behind after the Battle of Endor? Build a galaxy-class theme park, of course! This collaborative build was 5 ft wide x 3.75 ft deep x approximately 5 ft tall and was on original concept by my friend Boone Langston. The first and only showing of the full creation was during Bricks Cascade 2020 (February 27 to March 1) in Portland, Oregon. Boone shared about the first time he saw Return of the Jedi : "The first time I saw ROTJ , it was on all the television sets at some department store in Tucson. I just sat there and watched while mom and dad looked at furniture or appliances or something. I’m pretty sure that was my first exposure to anything Star Wars and I was mesmerized! I didn’t want to leave that store when they were done shopping. I think that’s why ROTJ and the Ewoks have always been my favorites!...

Lego MOC: Crystal Caverns

"CRYSTAL CAVERNS - First opened in 1994, this attraction transported guests to the mysterious and dangerous arctic base X-42, where researchers uncover the secrets of the Crystal Caverns. The ride was closed permanently after a serious incident involving an animatronic snow creature." One of my favorite features of Google Maps is the ability to look at satellite photos my favorite theme parks. A ride like Disneyland's Indiana Jones Adventure looks completely different from overhead than as a guest. As a guest you see the winding jungle-themed path, then an amazing temple interior. But as seen from above (or from back stage), the queue disappears into a soundstage -- a simple squared off building painted green to help camouflage it from the parking lot and other areas you might catch a glimpse at it.  I've always been fascinated at this marriage of guest-facing areas and backstage, behind-the-scenes areas.
